How is the 5TLL different than other sports programs?
The bulk of our costs are paid months before the season begins. While some of these costs are refundable (fields and permits), others are not. Some of these non-refundable items can be used next season (jerseys and caps, baseball equipment), and others cannot (insurance, web and credit card fees, storage fees, advertising fees and others).
How are you going to offer refunds if you already spent the money?
We spent a lot of the money, but not all of it. We have been in touch with many similar programs and we’re working out all options. The money we have will cover the costs of the refunds requested, and we can figure everything else out.
What are the advantages to getting a full credit for next year?
We’re still hoping to get some games in believe it or not. If camps are closed this summer (and even if not), we’re in touch with the District and County and should be able to play a mini season. If you’re getting a credit for next year, your son can play in these games for no additional fee. Furthermore, if the METS do have a season, your son would still get his ticket for the game and get to go on the field without having to pay. We are also setting up some very cool contests for all active participants. Prizes include autographed MLB paraphernalia, amazing tickets to some games, and some $100 amazon cards. Lastly, you will be able to register your son for free, even if there's a slight increase in price. It's a full credit.
Will there be a fall season this year?
Possibly. If we can pull it off, the cost for any one with a spring credit would be $75. That would cover the costs of the fields and equipment. The credit is for the main season which is the spring season.
What types of contests are you talking about?
Boys of all ages that are registered will have to fulfill certain criterion in order to be able to win. For example, throwing up a ball higher than 10 feet and catching it 15 times in a row is one contest. There will also be online quizzes that will test your kids baseball IQ. The contests get increasingly difficult, and we’ll be posting videos and pictures of winners on the website.
What sort of equipment are you giving out?
We’ll be giving out T balls (what we use for grades 3 and down), clinchers, bases and some baseball mitts at no charge to all registrants. Obviously, we need to make sure that we follow all social distancing rules, but we are setting this up shortly. Information regarding this and the contests will be sent out in a few days.
If I request a refund, how long will it take to get it?
All requests MUST be made using the request link below so we can keep track of everything. Our request deadline is Sunday, May 3rd at 8:00 PM, although it’s not a first come first served scenario. In other words, as long as you fill out and submit the form before the deadline in 2 weeks, you will be fine. Once all requests are in, we’ll submit them to the credit card companies.
What's better for the league?
Obviously, the best option for us is for most people to take a credit for the next spring season. We've received many emails from parents requesting this already, so we're confident that's the path most people will choose. We did speak at length to many current parents and businessmen in the community. They felt strongly that we were being more than fair by offering a full credit with all the other options thrown in.
Can I have someone call me to discuss?
Absolutely. Please email me at [email protected] and I'll call you up as soon as possible. On a personal note, I want to apologize if anyone was put off by the previous FAQs. We spent a very long time speaking to various people and discussing all options, and in our rush to update everyone, the wording was a bit confusing. We would love to give a full refund, but due to the nature of the league, it just isn't possible. What's amazing is how many of you emailed us telling us "Not to worry about it." Nonetheless, we worried. We discussed taking out personal loans to cover the costs, but were told by some of the coaches that we were absurd for even thinking about it.
To the few of you that sent angry e-mails or demanded a full refund. There are so many programs that are in similar situations. I'm not talking about a sports program with 150 kids with almost no overhead. I'm talking about programs that spent tens of thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours setting up their programs. They spoke with us and explained that they were also offering a partial refund or a credit. This horrible virus is what's called an "Act of God" and it's affected millions of people and businesses. Even offering a full credit is going to really be difficult to pull off, but it's the right thing to do.
If you would like to discuss further, please email me and I will certainly get in touch with you.
Please stay safe,
